What is called human psychology could more properly be called the psychology of American college undergraduates


In a UPI report by Brooks Hays, we learn that Men and women are biologically programmed to be drawn to the arched back of a female, new research suggests (obrigado para Instapundit).

This leads three readers to deadpan the following:

Good posture has always radiated class, health, strength, and self-confidence.

Mothers have always admonished their children to stand up straight.

Proper posture has long been taught to young ladies of proper breeding.

The military has been requiring its members to stand straight forever.

Quote: "... were presented to 82 undergraduate students -- a mix of men and women."

How typical of today's social science research. It's almost invariably done with college undergrads because they come cheap. If medical research were done that way, everyone would yell "foul." What's the difference here? Do college undergrads represent all of humanity? I doubt it.

Long-standing issue. My older sister, in college half a century ago, said, her psych professor was dismissive of most psychological studies back then, stating that "What is called human psychology could more properly be called the psychology of American college undergraduates."
