Miami’s technology ecosystem suffers from a peculiar form of misrecognition. Outside observers still reach for postcard clichés—beaches, nightlife, spectacle—while insiders sometimes reach for the opposite cliché: the inevitability of ascent, the lazy prophecy that Miami is simply “the next” of some earlier hub. Both narratives are flattering in their own way, and both are analytically weak.
