PARIS — A coalition between the United States, Great Britain, France and
Soviet Russia was advocated by Former Premier Léon Blum [on Dec.
26, 1938] in a speech before the French Socialist Congress
reports the
International Herald Tribune in its 75 Years Ago section,
as the sole means
of preventing the totalitarian states — Germany and Italy — from
obtaining domination of the world. France, declared the Socialist
leader, should act as the link to bring together the democratic
Anglo-Saxon powers in a common bloc with the Soviet Union, he said.
