What better way could the EU show its commitment to fighting Global Warming than by letting its economy stagnant and decline? Once the EU matches, oh say, Ghana's economic performance, then it will prove beyond all doubt how genuinely committed it is to dealing with "single most important long-term issue that the planet faces."
