International Commitments

Foreign Policy has some interesting statistics on wealthy nations' contributions to the rest of the world. Highlights:

--Government vs. Private Giving: For every 25 cents of French government aid given to developing countries, French private citizens donate 1 cent. In contrast, for every 13 cents of U.S. government aid to developing countries, American private citizens donate 5 cents.
--France ranked seventh out of the 21 countries (thereby tying the U.S.) who were evaluated according to how much their policies help or hinder development in poorer nations. Criteria included Aid, Trade, Investment, Migration, Environment, Security and Technology Policies. The Netherlands ranked first.
