Efforts to Tell the Truth About Communism in Europe Impaired

José Bové discusses freedom of speech among other things in his chat about the presidential election (in which the French communist party and the new leftist régimes of Latin America are praised), while the new archbishop of York comdemns multiculturalism.

In the meantime, Europe shows great resistance to condemning communism. Noting the communist parties' determination to condemn "capitalism" and to put democracies on the same level as dictatorships, Jean-Louis Mergolin and Nicolas Werth point out that
the frenetic hostility to the United States, to globalisation, and to free markets serves as an alibi to hide critical work [on communist régimes].
